What Gas Appliances Do We Install?
We install, connect, and commission all types of domestic gas appliances. This includes freestanding and built-in gas cookers, gas hobs, range cookers (dual fuel and all-gas), gas fires (open-flue and balanced-flue), gas water heaters, and gas tumble dryers. Every installation is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer and includes a safety test and commissioning check.
Gas appliance installation is not a DIY job. Under UK law, it is illegal for anyone who is not Gas Safe registered to install, disconnect, or modify a gas appliance. Even seemingly simple tasks — like connecting a gas cooker — involve checking gas pressure, testing joints for leaks, and verifying that the appliance has adequate ventilation. An incorrect installation can cause gas leaks, carbon monoxide poisoning, or explosions.
We regularly install gas appliances in new kitchens, during property renovations, and when homeowners upgrade their existing equipment. We also disconnect and safely cap off old gas appliances when they are being replaced with electric alternatives.
Our service covers Barry (CF62, CF63), Cardiff, Penarth, Bridgend, Cowbridge, Pontypridd, and all surrounding areas in the Vale of Glamorgan. We offer same-day installation slots when available.
The Risks of Improper Gas Appliance Installation
An improperly installed gas appliance is one of the most dangerous hazards in a domestic property. A loose gas connection can leak gas into your kitchen or living room, creating an explosion risk. Even a minor leak that is too small to smell can build up over time in an enclosed space.
Incorrect flue connections on gas fires and water heaters can direct combustion gases — including carbon monoxide — into your living space instead of safely outside. Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless, making it undetectable without a working CO alarm. It causes approximately 60 deaths and 4,000 hospitalisations per year in the UK.
Many homeowners purchase gas appliances from retailers who deliver but do not install. The appliance then sits unused until someone connects it — and too often, that someone is not qualified. Retailers clearly state that gas appliances must be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer, but this advice is frequently ignored.
Illegal gas work also invalidates your home insurance. If a gas-related incident occurs and the appliance was installed by an unqualified person, your insurer can refuse the claim. The cost of a professional installation is a fraction of the potential consequences of getting it wrong.

Gas Appliance Installation in Detail
Gas cooker installation is our most common appliance connection. Freestanding cookers connect via a bayonet fitting or flexible gas hose (to BS 669 standard). We check that the gas supply pipe is the correct diameter, test gas pressure at the connection point, and verify that the stability chain or bracket is fitted to prevent the cooker tipping. We also check ventilation requirements — gas cookers in small kitchens may need additional ventilation to meet building regulations.
Gas hob installation (built-in) involves connecting the hob to a capped gas supply point within the worktop cutout. We test each burner for correct flame pattern, verify the flame failure device (FFD) operation on each ring, and check that the gas connection is accessible for future maintenance. We also advise on clearance requirements above the hob for extractors and overhead cabinets.
Range cooker installation (Rangemaster, AGA, Falcon, etc.) requires careful attention to gas supply capacity. Range cookers have high gas consumption rates and may need a larger gas supply pipe than a standard cooker. We check the gas meter capacity, supply pipe diameter, and pressure at the appliance to ensure adequate performance. Dual fuel range cookers also require an electrical connection, which we coordinate with an electrician if needed.
Gas fire installation covers both open-flue and balanced-flue (room-sealed) models. Open-flue fires require a functioning chimney or flue system and adequate room ventilation. Balanced-flue fires draw air from outside and discharge combustion products through the wall, so they do not need a chimney. We install both types, including fitting the flue terminal, connecting the gas supply, and commissioning the fire to manufacturer specifications.
Gas water heater installation includes instantaneous (multipoint) water heaters and storage water heaters. These appliances require a flue connection and adequate ventilation. We install new units, replace ageing models, and upgrade from older flueless types to modern, safer alternatives.
We also handle gas appliance disconnection and capping. When you are replacing a gas cooker with an induction hob, removing a gas fire, or decommissioning a gas point, we safely disconnect the appliance, purge the gas line, and cap the supply with a gas-tight fitting. This ensures the supply is safely sealed and your property is gas-safe.
